A lot of people would really, really like to be able to run scripts from a plugin the way we can run scripts from other scripts. Taking this a step further, it would be awesome for a plugin to be able to communicate with another app, such as an external database. Is this feasible?

Adding scripting support to your plugin and/or interoperability with a third-party app is definitely feasible with platform code, but supporting classes/functions/etc. for this will not be implemented in hdi_core. Thanks for the suggestion though.
