Technically, the Illustrator SDK supports utilizing old versions of suites even in new versions of Illustrator, but we have had problems over the years with this type of legacy support. Additionally, a design goal of CORE is to support the latest features of a suite as soon as possible, so we build each version of the CORE binaries against the appropriate version of the Illustrator SDK. As such, I cannot recommend using legacy suite support because 1) you might run into the same, or similar, problems as we have, and 2) I don't know if CORE using the latest version of a suite internally and a developer, such as yourself, using a different version externally would function properly.
